Fantasy Football 2022 (Yahoo League)

The Winged Eagle Classic (Est.2018)

The Draft

Every year around Labor Day the men of the Winged Eagle Classic gather to decide their fantasy football fates! Each man comes with his own strategy and feels that this could be the year that he wins it all. I personally have been a part of this league since 2018 and it has been a blast. The best finish I have ever had was 4th 2 separate years (2019,2020) . I have made the payoffs 3 years in a row and look to try to claim the main title in 2022. This year's draft was a fun one as I had to video call my way in so my ability to track those that were drafted before and keep my cheat sheet updated. Overall I received a C for my draft and here is what Yahoo had to say about my draft…

Coming into the draft with a solid draft position (No. 5 overall), expectations were high for Sacramento Tigers. Then they drafted, and those expectations disappeared quickly, as this team is on track for an unexceptional 6th-place finish in The Winged Eagle Classic. Behind multiple 49ers in the early rounds (George Kittle and Eli Mitchell), Sacramento Tigers are predicted to post a record of 6-8 (1,957 points) “

I don't necessarily agree with that assessment of my team but I'm going to let you guys decide….

Meet the Sacramento Tigers (Starters)

This year’s team is stronger than most i have drafted as i got just about every pick that i selected pre draft. So basically what i'm saying is that if this team bombs this season its all on me…So lets start with what i feel is one of my strongest positionsthe Quarterback…

QB Justin Herbert (LA Chargers) (R2 Pick #16)

Herbert is a known commodity as he seems to perform yearly in most of the fantasy leagues i have been in, consistently putting up an average of 20+ points most days and he gave me a person who will consistently over perform. He has had his fair share of stinkers in the last 3 years but that offense seems to fit him well and if he can reach a portion of his ceiling this year and can win some games.

Back Up: QB Trey Lane (SF 49ers) (R6 Pick #56)

The next most important position for me was the running back position and I feel like I got some studs. Starting with my first pick of the draft, which was a young man from the Cleveland Browns who again has been a pretty consistent fantasy football performer for the last few years so I took him as soon as I could get him .

RB Nick Chubb (CLE Browns) (R1 Pick #5)

This stud was staring me in the face when my pick came up in the first round and I snatched him up (He has averaged at least 175 fantasy points the past 4 seasons. Chubb has always been one of the focal points of the Browns offense along with Kareem Hunt make up one of the best backfields in the NFL and I wanted a part of that.

Starter #2 RB Elijah Mitchell (SF 49ers) (R5 Pick #45)

Back Up: RB Raheem Mostert (MIA Dolphins) (R13 Pick #125)

Back Up: RB JD McKissic (WAS Commanders) (R15 Pick #145)

The roster had to be filled in and i looked for the best possible options when drafting but for the most part early in the draft i kept with my cycle (RB-QB-WR-TE) and so i will now take you to the hit or miss side of my team first the Tight Ends and then the Wideouts.

WR Keenan Allen (LA Chargers) (R3 Pick #25)

Allen was a must have for me when it came to wide receivers last year he had a monster season with iJust Herbert at the helm so i will be looking forward to them hooking up all season long and leading me to a Fantasy football Championship.

Starter #2: WR Adam Theilan (MIN Vikings) (R6 Pick #55)

Back Up: WR Amari Cooper (CLE Browns) (R11 Pick #105)

Back Up: WR Tyler Lockett (SEA Seahawks) (R12 Pick #115)

Back Up: WR Marvin Jones Jr (JAC Jaguars) (R16 Pick #155)

TE George Kittle (SF 49ers) (R4 Pick #35)

When I told you I felt lucky to get Kittle where I did, after I made the pick, I immediately  looked into flights to Vegas to see if I can extend that luck in the real world.   Kittle is a monster no matter who is at QB, he had a great season last year with Jimmy G at QB so i believe in him to have a great season this year.

Back Up: TE Zach Ertz (ARI Cardinals) (R8 Pick #75)

Back Up: TE Mike Gesicki (MIA Dolphins) (R14 Pick #135)

DEF/ST San Francisco 49ers (R9 Pick #85)

This was a no brainer if you have watched this defense the past few years they are solid at the DL and LB positions. If you watched this offseason they did something to help solidify the one area of the defense that had been lackluster in previous years: the CB position. The addition of Ward to the backfield will give the 49ers a solid corner to lock down one side of the field . This is why I took this defense… well that and they were available..

 DEF/ST Los Angeles Rams (R10 Pick #95)

So I looked at this roster and think I can win a bunch of games and even the championship. But I also know that I set myself up with some risky moves as some of my players have been known to end up injured before a season is over. I'm just hoping they can all stay healthy just like every other fantasy owner out there. Because i know that if my team can stay healthy, that championship will be mine…
