In the last few weeks, I have been hearing about a lot
of emails, I have received quite a few and the rest were all on ESPN. They kept
saying that during the investigation into the Washington Football Team and
their inappropriate actions in the front office (female employees complained about
things such as sexual harassment), they found emails sent from Gruden to then
team president Bruce Allen. The emails used homophobic, misogynistic, and
racist comments about several people within the NFL. After listening to the
facts of this situation it seems as if this was less of a resignation and more
of a dishonorable discharge. The NFL had recently “encouraged” the Raiders to act
on the emails and even sent them a few to understand the severity of the
situation. Mark Davis then went and had a “talk” with Gruden at the Raiders
facility and the next announcement was that he was “resigning”, and that Davis
was accepting his “resignation”. This all seems a easy way for the Raiders and
Gruden to come out of this without a major black mark on Gruden’s record. The
problem with that plan is that this is still a MAJOR black mark on Gruden’s
record.
This will be a black cloud that
will probably end Gruden’s career as a head coach, front office guy and
spokesman for just about any product. Why? Because he has made himself nuclear
with the content of those emails. I am one of those people that is having a hard
time reconciling all of this because I was a fan of Gruden as he headed back to
the Raiders organization that he wanted to lead to a Super Bowl before he
called it a career. This I believe will be the end of it for good old Chucky.
In todays racially, gender and sexuality sensitive society the things he said cannot
be tolerated and you still get to work as a public figure. The best thing for
Mr. Gruden would be to disappear and not be heard from for a very long time, no
statements, no apology press conferences, just disappear and let people forget
about Jon Gruden for awhile then maybe and I mean maybe they might let you coach
High School football. Till then it was a fun ride, sorry to find out you were
such a prick…
