Okay
so the big news of the day sort of is that the Eagles won their first Super
Bowl Championship in franchise history on Sunday February 2nd, the big
news in the bay though is a little bit different. The big news in the bay is #1
The signing of the future of the 49ers at QB Jimmy G, oh yeah and the Raiders
got back their man in bringing back Head Coach Jon Gruden. Ill get to the
latter later, right now I want to focus on SF. The 49ers are taking a big risk
and a big step forward in signing the man Jimmy G, a man that proved that he
can carry a team leading the 49ers to 5 straight victories to close out the
season. Even had some going as far as to say that the 49ers were a team that no
one wanted to see in the playoffs. This man was 80% of the reason why, he threw
for over 2000 yards and like 12TD’s in his 5 starts and looked like a stud in
the process. If the 49ers invest in themselves this offseason (they have over 50-70+
million left in cap room after the Garoppolo deal) so they still have plenty of
room to bring in so top free agents and to also possibly go to the draft to
fill out the roster the rest of this offseason.
Therefore, I kind of agree with Colin Cowherd
when he says that the 49ers are the biggest threat to go from worst to first in
their own division, and from one of the worst teams in the NFL (hell at one
point this team was 1-9 on the season and still finished 6-10) to one of the
best. The conundrum that they have now is how to smooth over the ego or
feelings of back up CJ Bethard who was drafted by SF last year in the later
rounds and performed admirably when Brian Hoyer turned out to be a bust in Shanahan’s
offense. Will this kid be okay after having a taste of the starting lineup as
SF gets better, or is he willing to sit back and learn and wait his turn
(probably with another team) at the spot light again. I truly hope he choses to
stay sit and learn because I think he will be a solid back up if Jimmy G ever
goes down. In the end I came to realize that John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan know
what they are doing and have a vision in mind. I just can’t wait to see what
that vision is when it comes to be. That’s all for now join me next time when I
discuss the hiring of Jon Gruden and what it means to the city of Oakland.
