Double K's Take: My thoughts on the Jon Gruden hire for the Raiders…

This last football season wasn’t the best for the Oakland Raiders. They came into the season as one of the favorites to reach the AFC championship game and one of the Super Bowl favorites as well. All that talent that they had ending last season and they went out and added RB Marshawn Lynch last offseason. That was like when the Warriors added Kevin Durant last offseason and dominated the NBA on the way to a championship. It looked as if that was taking place again in Oakland for this season, but then things changed. A couple of early season injuries and a whole lot of under performing during the season led the Raiders to a 6-10 and the loss of employment for HC Jack Del Rio and the defensive coordinator Ken Norton earlier in the season. But that led to a major change in the Raiders locker room for next season and they started at the top…

The Raiders went out and got themselves someone who the Raiders fanbase has been clamoring for since 2002 when he was traded to the Buccaneers by then Raider Owner Al Davis. This prompted the NFL world to go crazy as they realized that the amazing Chucky was back in Oakland, and that is a good thing for the Raiders. Look this was as huge as the Raiders getting Lynch, this changes everything, this team will be good in 2018.  Gruden went 38-26 while with the Raiders and lead them to the playoffs in 2 of his 4 years and was the coach during the infamous “Tuck Rule” game. So, he gets a chance to make things right as he takes ahold of this very young Raiders squad. Led by QB Derek Carr and WR Amari Cooper the Raiders will take a squad that has a even balance of youth and age to get them somewhere. Gruden will hit his 100-win mark next season (he sits at 95 right now) and he will lead them to the playoffs the question now is….Are they ready to reach a Super Bowl??? We will have to wait and see…
