Double K’s Take:
The 1st year under Shanahan and Lynch...
Let the Lynch and Shanahan Era begin...
This football season began on a low note so to speak, i say this because the team had fired the the GM (Trent Baalke) and the head coach (Chip Kelly) and were starting all anew with young Mr york at the helm. This inspired hope in no one as he was the one that destroyed the last potential dynasty that existed in the San Francisco franchise. But this time around he made some pretty surprising and well made choices. First was the hiring of the new GM and that was John Lynch, a man that had zero experience as a front office man. He also had the tenacity to make this franchise better that they needed, now this is where things are kinda twisted because it was already announced that Shanahan was going to be the next head coach well before they hired Lynch. The Lynch signing came first because Shanahan was busy getting to a Super Bowl and couldn't sign his contract till after his job was done in Atlanta….
The Offseason where money fell from the sky and the 2017 NFL Draft...
This off season the 49ers went into it with i think the 2nd most cap space with the likes of Colin Kaepernick's contract coming off the books. That was an extra 17 million in cap room, they spread this around pretty handily during the free agency period as they signed the likes of WR Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin, FB Kyle Jusick, they also made key additions to the defense as well signing DT Earl Mitchell from Miami to add to the 2 1st rounders they already had on the line. They eventually moved on to the draft and that is where they hit a major home run…
The draft came and the 49ers were looking to make an early impact, and they did just that by trading down one spot to the 3rd spot in the draft. Allowing Chicago to take QB Mitchell Trubisky and they could get some extra picks and get their guy DE Solomon Thomas. They then would trade back into the 1st round and took Alabama LB Reuben Foster. I am assuming that Lynch sees these 2 as his personal Warren Sapp and Ronde Barber on the 49ers defense. They sort of lived up to that hype this season, those 2 pieces wouldn't be the only gems they found in the draft. They also found CB Akelo Witherspoon and RB Joe Williams and Matt Bredia. This team looks to be stacked in the coming years...
The 49ers finish this season 6-10, who saw this coming and after winning 5 straight...
This season started out about as horrible as it possibly could, the 49ers were basically the worst team in football. They opened the season on a 9 game losing streak and it looked as if they were headed for a 0 for season. Then came the trade that turned the around the fortunes of a franchise who had made a lot of bad choices over the past few years. The 49ers had managed to pry Jimmy Garoppolo from the New England Patriots. This was a task that a couple of different teams had tried to do and failed., but with Jimmy G in town things would change. The 49ers proceeded to to beat the Giants then traded for Jimmy G and lost to the Seahawks after holding Jimmy out till the 4th Quarter they let him play. This resulted in a touchdown, its was the only one of the game for the 49ers….
Shanahan decided (due to a Beathard injury during the Seattle game) that it was Jimmy G time in the city by the bay. Then came one of the best 5 game starts of anyone's career with a team. Jimmy G went on a tear where he won games against Chicago, Houston, Tennessee, Jacksonville (who owned the league's best defense at the time) and finally the NFC West champion Los Angeles Rams. These games will come to be the beginning of something special in Santa Clara, going into this next off season they have the most cap space and have shown a penchant for doing the right thing with their money and draft picks. So look out NFL because here comes the 49ers…
