Double K’s Take:
What are the needs of the 6-8 Oakland Raiders….
Introduction
This week i take a look at the Oakland Raiders as they have officially closed the door on competing in the postseason for the 2017-18 season. What’s sad is that to open this season this team was seriously Super Bowl contenders...and this was a legit prediction for a team that had made the playoffs at year and added beast mode (Marshawn Lynch) this last offseason. But alas early struggles and injuries left the Raiders flat and after a home loss to the Cowboys they were eliminated from the postseason. That left me to ask and answer one key question. What’s wrong with the Raiders? And How do we fix it?? Ok that’s 2 questions but you get the point...
Defensive Secondary...
The defensive secondary has been a liability since the 2016-17 season as they cant seem to contain great receivers one game and then can play lockdown defense the next game one of the games best. This inconsistency and inability to force turnovers through the passing game (didn't get the teams 1st INT till later in the season and that was by a LB not a DB) caused this teams defense to get abused at times by teams they should have beaten. If they can address their major need for a playmaker in the defensive backfield weather it be in the draft or free agency it will help out alot…
Offensive Coordinator...
This is a problem that can be solved very easy in the fact that they can fire the man for doing his job badly and that would be that. The only problem with that is the fact that the problem isn't the O-Coordinator and i say that with a grain of salt none of the Raiders offensive stars have really lived up to the hype, after the showing they had last season with one of the most prolific offenses in all of pro football. Can they get back to that this offseason?? I just don't think that can happen without a change a offensive coordinator…
Offensive Line…
This is probably something that has you scratching your head the Raiders have a excellent o-line (when healthy) so why would you need to replace that?? My response to that would be simply to say you can never have enough healthy top tier offensive lineman around. The longer that the line can keep the QB upright and healthy the better chance you have for a victory. With that being said i do this adding some rotation depth for the Raiders or injury depth if that's what you want to call it. Overall i think they need to add to this group to increase their chances of winnings 10+ games next season…
