The Warriors have started out extremely rough this season,
not only have they started out at 1-2 (I know only 3 games into this season and
I’m not concerned with their chances to win the championship.) but they seem to
be out of sync. To open the season they had a close home loss to the new look
Rockets, after a wonderful ring ceremony. This in itself is not that uncommon
most teams have what’s called the championship hangover, lose their first game
or have a rough start to the season. The part that did disturb me from this
game was the performance of the 2nd team on defense, it seemed as if
the Warriors 2nd team was a little soft on the defensive side of the
ball. The prime example of this is that the Dubs had multiple leads when the
starters were on the floor and those leads were squandered by said line ups
this was not a staple of Warriors teams of the past and it is a reoccurring
trend that I don’t like….
In the 2nd game of the season they showed some
life because they were down for most of this game until late 3rd
quarter and then were able to take a lead and hold on to it. I felt like this
was a good barometer of who the Warriors are as a team. They have a bunch of
closers but they don’t have any new or more dogs coming off the bench, like Speight’s
and company who helped the Warriors lead the league in defense in previous
years. The good thing about all this is that they have A LOT of season left to
play and right this ship. Its something I expect them to do and it should be
taking shape about 20-25 games in. But for now they will struggle and they will
look like the Warriors have fallen off but in the end they will bounce back and
I personally believe that this team was built for the post season and will win
when it counts. So look out for Cavs v Dubs IV because this story is far from
over…..
