This has been a wild one so far…
The off season started with the firing of Trent Ballke and former head coach Chip Kelly. Then came the wait to see how the 49ers fill that void. We would expect that Jed York would have screwed this up big time, he had screwed up so many times before. This time though I think he got it right, first he took a risk similar to what the Warriors did in hiring a first time Head Coach (Kerr and Jackson). The 49ers and owner Jed York took a risk and hired a 1st time GM in Former safety John Lynch and 1st time head coach Kyle Shanahan. Both good choices and both locked into 6yr deals that will allow them to rebuild this team one piece at a time. The 1st piece that they decided to attack was the defense…
NFL Free Agency….
This was the first step in improving the team and the 49ers front office took massive strides in that department as they looked to resign their own 1st and they did that 100%...Bringing guys like Jeremy Kerley and Vance McDonald back into the fold showed they were looking for Shanahan’s guys. They went out and added a couple of QB’s after letting go of Kapernick and Gabbert the 2 starters from last season, they replaced them with journeyman QB Brian Hoyer and his backup in Chicago QB Matt Barkley. Both of them are looking to revitalize their careers in the burgundy and gold and Hoyer has the edge as he has played in Kyles offense before. They also brought in Tim Hightower, Michael Smith, Pierre Garcon, Logan Paulson, Aldrick Robinson and most recently they added another pass rushing threat in Elvis Dumerville. Already Lynch and Shanahan are making an impact and making this team….
