With the post season firmly in our rear view mirror the next step in the NBA schedule is the NBA Draft!! This is where legends are born. Steph, Klay, Draymond and Harrison came to be thru the NBA draft. Now another team picking in the top 10 or so looks to change their fortune is one choice and go from pretender to contender overnight. These are the picks that i see the West Coast teams picking in the coming week. The only one i left off is the Warriors predict their pick on Wed....
Projected Draft Pick: #2 Lakers - SF Brandon Ingram (6’9”190lbs 18yrs old, Duke)
My Take: Ingram for me is someone that recently came into the league, i would have taken the kid Hield from Oklahoma would have been a better pick for this team that recently lost one of the best scorers the league has seen. To replace Kobe will be impossible but not trying is just plain silly. But this is a must win season as far as the draft goes so i suppose that this kid can get the job done in the long run...
Projected Draft Pick: #4 Suns - PF Dragan Bender (7’0” 220lbs Croatia)
My Take: This pick for the Suns will be crucial to their success down the road. I think that going PF is the way to go and a big man from overseas should be a great fit. We just don't know if he will fit in as a stretch four and can he hit three’s and dominate like Porzingis did last year for the KNicks. Or he could turn out to be a complete flop and land them right back in the lottery. If not this kid then local player Jaylen Strong could be a great pick for the Suns so we will have to wait till draft time to figure out what they are going to do...
Projected Draft Pick: #8 Kings PF Marquese Chriss (6’10” 235lbs WASH)
My Take: The Kings have a lot of holes going into the offseason and they can fill most with veteran help during free agency. So that leaves depth to worry about during the draft next week, this kid Chriss a 6’10” PF out of Washington looks to help out with a spark plug off the bench. The only issue is that the Kings have not found their head coach so we don't really know what direction they will be going in but for now this is who i think is a best fit...
Projected Draft Pick: #25 Clippers - SF Taurean Prince (6’8” 220lbs Baylor)
My Take: The Clippers had themselves a fairly decent season and probably would have had a chance to knock off the defending champs. Then the injury bug hit them as both Griffin and Paul went down with injuries that out them down for the rest of the playoffs.So with that said they will be looking for a young wing player aand Prince fits that mold as he would be looking early to learn from Paul Pierce and then take over the starting position with the youth that the Cillpers already have. But we shall see as draft day is a few weeks away...
Projected Draft Pick: 2016 1st round pick belongs to Denver!!
My Take: The Blazers were a very good team in general last season. They lost LaMarcus Aldridge and all looked doom and gloom.The emergence of McCollum as a threat and the growth of Plumblee and Aminu lead to the Blazers winning enough games to get into the playoffs and knock off the Clippers and take the defending champs to the limit. Due to a trade earlier in the year the Blazers do not have a 1st round pick this season. So unfortunately they won't be getting a young stud this season...
