Double K’s Take: The San Francisco 49ers and their wild offseason…

Last week the NFL’s Free Agency period started…. Let’s just say that saying it was a explosion of several teams would make it a understatement. But for the San Francisco 49ers they did their damage early the final week before the free agency started (DL Dockett and WR Simpson) and then on the day the NFL market was open for business (WR Smith). Even late this week the 49ers were out there filling holes in their team (CB Wright, RB Bush and OL Pears). So as far as I am concerned the 49ers have done a good job of rebuilding this team for HC Tomsula this offseason… So lets take a look at some of the newest 49ers…

DL Darnell Dockett (Former Team:  Arizona Cardinals) (2013-14: 46 T, 0 FF, 4.5 SCKS): After coming over from the Cardinals the 49ers have managed to make one of their division rivals a little weaker on the defensive line. The downside is that Dockett is coming off of a ACL injury and that can almost be career ending for a defensive lineman. He will be looking to replace Justin Smith if Smith chooses to retire but he will be playing alongside him on a strong defensive line if he stays, Look for him to have a impact next year for thei ever changing 49ers squad…

RB Reggie Bush (Former Team: Detroit Lions) (2014-15: 76 ATT, 297 YRDS, 2TD): Bush is someone that is a wild card in all this. The reason being that Bush has never really been a every down back his entire career. His best days in New Orleans were as what they call a scat back. Bush will play a similar role here in San Francisco. Hyde will most likely be the primary back with Bush getting the actual starts. This combination will work well and should lead to a solid running game between Bush, Hyde and Hunter…

WR Torrey Smith (Former Team: Baltimore Ravens) (2014-15: 49 REC, 767 YRDS, 11TD):Smith will be a difference maker in the San Francisco offense. Not to mention the fact that he will be reuniting with his former receiving mate in Anquan Boldin. A slot that became available when former 49er wide out Michael Crabtree decided to look for greener pastures. So with that money they bring in Smith who had 11 TD’s this past season in limited duty. So keep an eye on this guy because he has the potential to have a breakout year in 2015…

The 49ers also managed to pick up another project player. The former Rugby star turned running back Jared Hayne will be attempting to make the transition from Rugby star to NFL running back. Will he breakthrough and actually make the team?? I think he will have at least 2 seasons to figure it out. But only time will tell and I don’t really expect him to have a impact right away. But these free agents will have a impact this season they won’t have a choice…
