In most years the east has been looked at as the baby sister
of the much stronger Western Conference. This year the East has been holding
their own with the Western Conference as the Hawks are a mere couple of games
behind the Warriors for the best record in the entire league. Even if you look
at the top 4 teams in the east (ATL,CLE,TOR, and CHI) all of those teams have
shown flashes of greatness in looking to finish runner up to the Hawks for home
court throughout. First up we will take a look at the leaders in the east…
Current #1 Seed Atlanta
Hawks (49-13, 29-4 HM, 20-9 RD, and 32-9 CNF): The Hawks just like the
Warriors surprised a lot of people this season. Not by being a good team but by
being one of the best teams in the league today. The Hawks have achieved this
through teamwork and a system similar to the Warriors and what Steve Kerr has
installed. They play really good defense and score well from the entire medium
to long range shots. Their weakness is that they may not matchup well with
teams like the Cavaliers who have 4’s and 5’s that can bang. I expect them to
finish the season in the #1 position and with home court advantage…
Finish: #1 Seed
in the playoffs with Home Court advantage throughout…
Current #2 Seed
Cleveland Cavaliers (40-25, 24-9 HM, 16-16 RD, and 25-13 CNF): The
Cavaliers have regained King James in his top form. This is a good thing for a
team that a struggled even with stars for the past couple of seasons. LeBron
will once again be the saving grace for a city that hasn’t ever known a
champion. This team is gelling at the right time and is in line to make a run
at the NBA Finals…
Finish: #2 Seed
in the playoffs with Home Court advantage throughout…
Now onto the bottom of the league where the lucky teams win
the lotto and get a chance at the title without winning even 50% of the games
they played this season. This is prevalent in the east because it happens often
normally the last 2 or 3 teams out of the east are sub .500 teams. This year we
have the Pacers, Heat and Hornets who are all bidding for the final 2 playoff
spots…
Current #7 Seed
Indiana Pacers (28-34, 16-14 HM, 12-20 RD, and 20-16 CNF): The Pacers look
to be closing in on locking down the 7th seed in the playoffs. They
have a solid roster that I think can play well enough in the next 20+ games to
stay solid and make the postseason. Will they go anywhere in the playoffs?? I don’t
think so the most likely opponent for them is the Cleveland Cavaliers and I don’t
think they can beat LeBron and Co. in a 7 game series…
Finish: #7 seed in the playoffs taking on the Cavaliers
in the 1st round…
Current #8 Seed Miami
Heat (28-34, 13-17 HM. 15-17 RD, and 18-18 CNF): The Heat is a team that
will struggle to make it to the playoffs in the 1st place. With the loss
of their big star Chris Bosh the future doesn’t look to good as they are in
danger of being caught by the Hornets. But they do have D-Wade and Deng on that
roster and they just added Dragic. I believe that they can stay strong enough
to barley hold onto the 8 seed…
Finish: #8 seed
in the playoffs taking on the Hawks in the 1st round…
Current #9 Seed
Charlotte Hornets (27-33, 15-16 HM, 12-17 RD, and 20-16 CNF): The Hornets
are a good team and a team that could be a threat for the playoffs in years to
come. But unfortunately for them this year I think both of these teams are
going to be able hold off the Hornets. So for the 2014-15 seasons the Hornets
will be left out and it’s a shame because they made some real noise last year.
So I see them finishing 9th and just outside the playoffs…
Finish: #9 seed
in the playoffs…
