Double K’s Take: UFC 182 Jones vs. Cormier (1/3/15)

Main Card (PPV)…

Fight #1 Josh Burkman (27-10) vs. Hector Lombard (34-4-1) (Lombard via Unanimous Decision):  This was a fight that saw 2 veteran fighters with over 40 KO’s between them. It lived up to its billing as a good fight, but at the end of the day the beast that is Lombard gets the win via decision. Lombard pretty much did what he wanted and ended up taking the fight…

Fight #2 Kyoji Horiguchi (14-1) vs. Louis Guadinot (6-3-1) (Horiguchi via Unanimous Decision): Another good fight but one sided. Horiguchi was really aggressive through all 3 rounds and was just the better fighter. Guadinot showed flashes of being able to slow down Kyoji as proven by the unanimous decision. Overall awesome fight…

Fight #3 Brad Tavares (12-3) vs. Nate Marquart (33-13-2) (Tavares via Unanimous Decision): Another 3 round decision, the third straight tonight. Again a fight that most thought that Tavares was going to win, so the result wasn’t much of a surprise. Tavares dominated the fight but Marquart proved that the division is deep and neither of these guys is going anywhere…

Fight #4, Co Main Event: Donald Cerrone (25-6-1) vs. Myles Jury (15-0) (Cerrone via Unanimous Decision): First round goes to Cerrone after a dominating performance in which he had Jury on the defense the whole round. Round 2 could have went either way as neither fighter really took control of the round. The final round was dominated by Cerrone topped with the ending (Jury on his back and Cerrone literally kicking his ass). Overall a great fight and a hard 1st loss for Jury…

Fight #5 Light Heavyweight Title Fight, Main Event: © Jon “Bones” Jones (20-1) vs. Daniel Cormier (15-0) (Jones retains via Unanimous Decision): The first round was split as both men had their moments, but if I had to give it to someone I would give it to Jones by a sliver. Although Cormier had the strong finish to the round I think again it was Jones who came out the victor in this round. Round 3 was exciting mainly because both men really shined but it was Cormier that shined brightest. In a round dominated by Jones I think he may have just sealed the fight, I have him up 3 rounds to 1. Final round goes to Jones and there is still bad blood between these two as Cormier falls short…

Overall PPV Score: B+ - I had to give it a B+ mainly because there were no knockouts on the main card. Im sorry but it is boring to me to watch a entire PPV in which every fight goes the distance. Oh well maybe we will get a knockout at 183…
