Looking at the Oakland Athletics roster heading into the
2015 season I don’t see many names that I remember from last year. Gentry,
Crisp Reddick all of these guys will be wearing the Green and Gold this upcoming
season. The pitching staff on the other hand has had what I like to call a
backward cleaning. The top elite pitchers from last year are gone (Lester,
Samardja) but their replacements aren’t that bad (Griffin, Chavez, Pomerance,
Parker) but alas it left A’s fans with no star power on their roster, but with
one hell of a team…
Athletics trade 3B
Josh Donaldson to Blue Jays for 3B Brett Lawrie and minor leaguers: When
Donaldson was moved most of the A’s fans cringed. I didn’t I looked at what we
got in return and began to understand what Bean was trying to do in helping the
Athletics compete now and into the future. Not to mention the fact that Lowrie
is not a bad bat. He may not be Donaldson but he will serve the Athletics well
at the bat and in the field…
Athletics trade SP
Jeff Samardzija to White Sox for IF Marcus Semien, C Josh Phegley, RHP Chris
Bassit, ect: This was the trade that got a lot of look see by a lot of
people. Mainly because of the fact that everyone (Including Me) thought that
the Athletics could get more for Samardzija; But then when I took a closer look
at what they did get for him Semien could be the future at SS and pairing him
now with Zobrist leaves the A’s in a good place…
Athletics trade C
John Jaso and 2 minor leaguers to the Rays for IF Ben Zobrist and SS Yunel
Escobar: Another trade that from a distance looks great for the Athletics,
when you think about it this single trade solves all of the A’s infield woes.
The double play combo with two veterans left them with Davis/Butler at 1st,
Zobrist at 2nd, Escobar at SS and Lowrie at 3rd. I would
take that infield any day of the week. But alas that dream was only short lived…
Athletics trade SS
Yunel Escobar to Nationals for All Star RP Tyler Clippard: The final of
what has been 9 trades this off season, involving 27 players. The Athetics
addressed their bullpen. Last year the bullpen let the A’s down at crucial
moments during the season and left A’s fans screaming for a overhaul. They got
one of sorts as Clippard will fit in nicely with Doolittle, Cook ect. So look
for the A’s to compete for another AL West title in 2015, Thanks to the great
mind of GM Billy Beane…
