Readers Choice Tournament 2013 Matchup #5: (3) 95’ Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. (6) 84’ Edmonton Oilers…
Match Up #5
(3) 95’ Nebraska
Cornhuskers (HC Tom Osbourn, REC: 12-0, 7-0 Big 8, Star Player: Tommy Fraizer):
I don’t remember too much about this team but I can tell you this... This
Cornhusker team was bad ass and I wouldn’t doubt if they could run all over
many of the college football teams out there today. Including the vaunted Nick
Sabin Led Alabama Crimson tide. With just two guys out there who were true
stars. Tommy Frazier and Lawrence Phillips two guys who didn’t end up having
great NFL careers but were great college athletes on a very good college
football team that went 12-0 and won a National Title over Florida…
*(6) 84’ Edmonton
Oilers (Man: Glen Slather, REC: 57-18-5, Star Player: Wayne Gretsky): This
team is a team that dreams are made of and a team that included Wayne Greatsky,
Mark Messier and a host of other future NHL HOF’rs. They won a astounding 57
games that season and dominated in the playoffs to win yet another Stanley Cup
for the Oilers franchise that haven’t been the same since these greats left the
roster. Like the 49ers of the 80’s and the Cowboys of the 90’s the Oilers were
the team of the decade in the NHL. And could easily be considered one of the
greatest teams ever…
