Now
coming into the second round of the NBA playoffs the Spurs were well rested due
to their sweep and embarrassment of the Los Angeles Lakers and the “Dwight
Howard” Experiment. The Warriors on the other hand had just come off a hard
fought 6 game series against the Denver Nuggets. So when you looked on paper
and with the naked eye. It looked as if the Warriors had the advantage coming
into this matchup. The 1st hurdle was just winning a game in San
Antonio something that they knew they had to accomplish in order to have a
chance of taking the series. The other issue they had was the fact that they hadn’t
won a game in San Antonio in almost 20 years. That 1st game looked
like the Warriors were going to be bringing all that to an end. But alas the
Spurs veterans were able to hold the together for the win. Now game 2 saw the
Warriors end that streak and it looked like they were going to be able to upset
the vaunted Spurs, it unfortunately it wasn’t to be as the Spurs were able to
get the split in Oakland and send the Warriors home in 6 games. Until next year
for the Warriors, These are some key game in the series to think about…
Game #1 – San Antonio
survives Double OT to take game one at home: In a game that saw the
Warriors jump out to as much as a 16pt lead, the Spurs experience shined
bright. As they took control late in the 4th and were able to tie
it. In overtime the 2 teams traded shots and battled back and forth. It was heart
wrenching to watch a old Manu Ginobali left wide open on the final play to
allow him to hitthe game winning 3 pointer that extended San Antonio’s home win
streak over the Warriors by one more game…
Game #2 – Warriors bounce
back and end a 20yr drought in San Antonio: This time the Warriors led that
game from wire to wire. They were able to adjust and not make the same mistakes
late that they made in game one. And the result was different and ended the
Warriors 20+ year drought of losses in San Antonio. Stephen Curry really
started to emerge as the Warriors true leader as he helped lead them to this
victory…
Game #3 – Curry gets
hurt and Spurs take control of the series: This was the game that changed
it all coming back to Oakland it looked like the Warriors were going to be
taking control of the series. They had been extremely hard to beat at home all
season long. But a lucky injury to the star point guard of the Warriors allowed
the Spurs to be able to take control of the series and slow down a hot Warriors
team that was playing well..
Game #6 – The Spurs
take the series in a hard fought game in Oakland: Not even the return of
the injured PF David Lee was able to help the Warriors bounce back they had
managed to force this into a 6 game series by splitting the 4 games but at this
point the Spurs were ready to put it away and get some rest before their series
against the Grizzlies…
