The
Oakland Raiders are coming off of a horrible 1st season under Head
Coach Dennis Allen and GM Reggie McKenzie. For this season the Raiders had the
#3 pick in the NFL draft and had a lot of holes to fill and a plethora of
options to take. All of which would be useful to the Raiders as an organization.
But they decided to trade down in the 1stround to the 12th pick and
took what is considered by most a very risky pick in the fact that. In the next
part of this post I am going to talk to you about the players that the Raiders
picked up in this year’s draft that may be impact players this season for the Raiders…
Oakland Raiders draft
recap: (NFL.com Grade: B, My Grade: B+) R1 CB DJ Hayden Houston, R2 OT Menalik Watson FSU, R3 OLB Sio Moore UCONN, R4 QB Tyler Wilson Arkansas, R6 TE Nick Kasa Colorado, R6 RB Latavius Murray Central Florida, R6 TE Mychal Rivera TENN, R6 DT Stacy McGee Oklahoma, R7 WR Brice Butler San Diego State, R7 DE David Bass Missouri Western…
Round 1
1.
R1
P12 –CB DJ Hayden Houston – (Pick
Grade: B+): Hayden can be an almost instant impact player. If he is as good
as he seems to be and can bounce back from the heart surgery he had to have
after getting hit and injured during practice and almost losing his life. He
will come in with a chip on his shoulder wanting to prove everyone who said the
Raiders could have stayed at 3 and got Dee Miliner. But I think long run the
Raiders made a good choice…not the better choice but a good one none the less…
Round 2
2.
R2 P10
- OT Menelik Watson FSU – (Pick
Grade: B): If you have been reading the blog recently then you know that
Menelik was one of my NFL Combine Players to watch for 2013. He is a great
offensive tackle with good instincts and average feet. But he is very coachable
and will look to step in as a rotation player on the offensive line. Will he be
a future starter for the Raiders? I don’t know but I can tell you that he will
be helpful in getting the starters some rest and keeping Matt Flynn upright…
Round 4
3.
R4
P15 – QB Tyler Wilson Arkansas – (Pick
Grade: B+): This pick will not fully flourish and become a value pick until
we see what happens with Tyrell Pryor. For now Wilson will be incentive for
Pryor to stay at the top of his game. This rookie is very coachable and can end
up being the Raiders Capernick as he can sit on the bench for his rookie season
and do spot duties when Pryor or Flynn is hurt. But mainly learn the pace of a
NFL game and learn the offense without the pressure of being a 1st
round pick. So it may not be the near future but expect to see him in the
Silver and Black soon as a starter potentially…
