Double K’s Greatest Game Never Played: 10’ Duke Blue Devils vs. 09’ N.Carolina Tar Heels in NCAA Championship Game…
Game #9 – 10’ Duke
Blue Devils vs. 09’ N.Carolina Tar Heels…
2009-10 Duke Blue
Devils (HC: Mike Krzyzewski, 30-5/ 13-3 ACC, Beat Butler Bulldogs 61-59 to win
title): This particular Blue Devils team was special. Young Seth Curry
had just transferred to Duke so he was unable to play in title game against
Butler. But for our purposes this team will have Curry coming off the bench.
With 2 future NBA players on the roster (Singler/Smith) this was a very fun
team to watch very exciting when they were all on the court together. Led by
Coach K this team won the ACC regular season title and then went on to dominate
most of their competition on their way to playing in one of the sloppiest
National Championship games I have ever seen in my life. Butler was led by
future NBA star F Gordon Heyward who led
his Cinderella team all the way to the title game only to lose to these Blue
Devils. But now they will be up for another tough task…
Game #9 – 10’ Duke
Blue Devils vs. 09’ N.Carolina Tar Heels…
2008-09 North
Carolina Tar Heels (HC Roy Williams, 34-4/13-3 ACC, and Beat Michigan St.
Spartans 89-72 to win title): The Tar Heels were a dominant team all season
long in a tough ACC. This team had 4 future NBA players on the roster (Zeller,
Lawson, Hansborogh, and Ellington). And using this stellar class of athletes
Roy Williams made his run at being one of the greatest teams to ever play at
the school. A dominant 34 win season and a 13-3 record in conference most
people had this team slated to go undefeated on the season. But alas there were
a couple of stumbles along the way but when it counted the most this team came
together and won themselves a National title…
Synopsis: 09’ Tar Heels
85, 10’ Blue Devils 80: In a game
that could be considered a battle of titans. These two teams battled each other
4 to 6 times during the 2 year period that they were in existence. But never
for a national title and in this scenario they will. And in my opinion this
game would be close till the very end. But at the end of the day the Tar Heels
and their NBA roster would be a little too much for Dukes young team. And at
the end of the day the low-post presence of Zeller and the smarts of Lawson as
a point guard would be a little bit much and they would be able to control the
tempo and keep the game going by playing from the inside out and would be the
Universal National Champion…
