2013 NFL Combine
Players to watch: OT Menelik Watson, Florida State University…
(6’5”, 310lbs, 5.01
Shuttle, 5.29 40 yard dash, Compared to: Jared Gathier): As much as this
kid is going to be drafted to high. It won’t be such a bad thing for whatever
team takes him. This kid has tones of what they call upside. He will be able to
make a solid backup guard or tackle early in his career and a eventual starter
after sitting and learning working on his upper body technique. He will be a
solid starter after the training and rework and has tons of hustle and can make
a great addition to almost any locker room in the NFL. But first he has to get
there…
On the Raiders…: The
Raiders could use this kid on their roster…problem is the Raiders don’t have a
draft pick in the right place to take him. I think he would be a great addition
to the Raiders offensive line and he could learn the offense over a couple of
years before it would be necessary for him to be a full time starter. And that
could end up being what makes him a All Pro under the Raiders o-line coach. But
alas the Raiders won’t be able to create the draft pick necessary to get him on
the roster…
On the 49ers…: The
49ers are probably the best fit for this kid in this system. The kid could just
sit and watch maybe get in there and do work 10-15 times a game when the starters
need a rest. But other than that his only job would be to learn… learn the
offense….learn his footwork… and develop his upper body strength before being
given the chance to start a few years down the road. Good thing is the 49ers
have the picks to make it happen….
