Now
last week I covered some of the overall stories that are pretty important heading
into the 2013 baseball season. The Blue Jays and their offseason moves that
made them instantly a contender not only for the Al East title but some say for
the World Series. But nothing is a lock!!! I also spoke about the Dodgers and
Angels and their attempts to follow suit with the Yankees model for success and
try to buy themselves a championship. I even spoke about the Seattle Mariners and
their big spending ways that allowed them to pay their top pitcher exactly what
he is worth on today’s market. These
stories were not the only stories in baseball there are a hundred more for all
the other teams. But this week I wanted to focus on 2 teams that did extraordinary
things last season…
D. The possible reemergence
of the Bay Area in baseball: Last year life was good on both sides of the
Bay the San Francisco Giants proved that they may have been able to win 3 World
Series titles in a row. Had Buster Posey not gone down 2 years ago mid season.
And the Oakland Athletics proved that you don’t always have to spend a lot of
money in order to win a division title. Most experts had the Athletics
finishing 3rd at best in their division and they bucked the odds and
pulled it out in a dramatic series to end the season in Oakland. The Giants
pretty much cruised through the season and turned it on late to win their
division and get to the playoffs. Now obviously the Giants finished a lot better
then the Athletics did but to have both teams in the playoffs had the Bay Area
buzzing for a week of fun West Coast style. But this year they both look to
have teams that if they play up to their level that they are capable of. They
will advance to the playoffs again this year and give us what we all want to see
and that is another bay bridge series that would be exciting for everyone
involved. But the games have to be played and both teams have to make the
playoffs for this to happen. But looking at their rosters it a dream that may
very well come true…
