As
of March 12th the NFL Free Agency period has officially began. In the
following blog I am going to give you some of my top free agents that the 49ers
and Raiders should try to sign. These players wont always be starters but they
will be quality players who both the 49ers and the Raiders can use to make
their team that much closer to winning a Super Bowl or even to the playoffs.
Lets Start with the 49ers…
A.
Rams
WR Danny Amendola/Patriots WR Wes Welker: No both of these receivers are
going to come with a hefty price tag. But I believe to have this kind of talent
in the slot would help Colin Kapernick with having another safety net outside
of Vernon Davis and especially if they let Delanie Walker slip thru their hands…
B.
49ers
S Dashon Goldson: This needs to be a offseason priority for the 49ers.
Goldson has been a huge part of the 49ers defensive success in recent years.
Last year the 49ers put the franchise tag on him . But this year it would be in
their best intrest to pay whatever is necessary (within reason) to retain his
services for years to come…
C.
Falcons
CB Brent Grimes: The 49ers do have a
definite need at the back up CB position. Clements has done a fine job of
holding his own against some of the best WR in the NFL but he dose need help on
the other side of the field. I think that Grimes could fit this mold perfectly and give the 49ers some depth at eh
CB position…
D.
Colts
DE Dwight Freeny/Giants DE Osi Umenyiora: Now this is another position in
which the 49ers don’t need a starter but someone who can give them depth at the
DL and LB position. I think both of these guys provide depth at those
positions. You add in either one of them to the defensive rotation and the
49ers would have a formidable front 7 to compare with any in the NFL…
I feel that with all of the available
big name free agents the 49ers don’t have to make a huge splash In the free agent
market they could go out and sign a bunch of teir 2 free agents and still accomplish
their goals. And lets not forget the fact that the 49ers will most likely have
12-15 picks in the draft this year. Jim Harbaugh has a lot to think about this
offseason so we will give him his time and move on to what the Raiders need
this off season…
A.
Raiders
P Shane Lechler: Shane Lechler has been the most consistent punter in the
NFL has to be a big priority. So at the top of the list has to be resigning
this man. The only punter that is equal is across the bay and he is locked up
for the next couple of years…
B.
Dolphins
OT Jake Long: I think that Long would be a upgrade to their current
tackles. And I think that Long fits the Raiders style of play he is a big
brusing tackle that they could use to protect either Palmer or Pryor. Whoever
is under center…
C.
Lions
DE Cliff Avril/Giants DE Osi Umenyiora:: This is a area that the Raiders don’t
need to go out and sign anyone with big names or anything. But to see them land
either one of these free agents would be huge for them next season on a
defensive line that will only get better. And a line backing core that will be
one of the best in the NFL…
D.
Steelers
WR Mike Wallace: The Raiders would have to pick up a huge contract to get
this one done. But could you imagine how great the Raiders offense would look
with DHB on one side and Mike Wallace on the other. Denarious Moore in the slot
would give Carson so many ways to pick apart a defense that it would be ashamed
if he had a bad season…
With the Raiders things are a little bit more complicated they have
a little bit more room under the cap than the 49ers. But I still don’t see them
making a big splash in free agency. But this is a free agent wish list for both
of these teams these are players that I feel can help the 49ers or the Raiders.
Will they sign them who knows??? Lets just hope that they make some good
decisions to keep the ball rolling in San Fran and to get the ball rolling in
Oakland…
