Double K’s Greatest Games Never Played: WS 89’Oakland Athletics vs 10’ San Francisco Giants…

Game #5 –World Series - 89’ Oakland Athletics vs 10’San Francisco Giants…

1989 Oakland Athletics (MNGR: T.LaRussa, 99-63, AL West CHMPS, Def SF Giants 4-0 in WS): in what would be the last Worlds Series title that the Athletics would win under Manager Tony Larussa. The Athletics came one win short of a 100 win season. But with a starting pitching staff that was 4 AS deep the Athletics came into the series strong with McGwire and Canseco on streaks the Athletics new that as long as they  could stay healthy this series was a wrap. Now when you include the earthquake that allowed the Ahtletics to start their #1 (Stewart) and #2 (Moore) in back to back sets (1&2 then 3&4). The bats stayed hot and the pitchers did too as the Athletics got a sweep over their cross bay rivals as they won their 9th title in the Bay Area…

Game #5 –World Series - 89’ Oakland Athletics vs 10’San Francisco Giants…

2010 San Francisco Giants (MNGR: B.Bochy, 92-70, NL West CHMPS, Def Texas Rangers 4-1 in WS): In a season that saw the San Diego Padres lead the NL West for most of the season. Then have one of the largest collapses in MLB history. Up over the Giants by 10 games with about 25 to go the Padres proceeded to lose 10 straight games and allow the Giants to catch up and surpass them. The Giants made the most of their playoff appearance as they met with the Rangers and ended up dominating the Rangers unlike most experts had predicted. This Giants team was something special and brought the 1st title to the San Fran Bay Area in over 54 years. Amazing to watch and a pleasure to get behind….

Synopsis: 89’ Athletics 4, 10’ Giants 3: Unfortunately the 2010 Giants would be able to get it done in Oakland for Game 7 as the bats of Canseco, McGwire and Henderson would be too much for the Giants young arms and Stewart, Moore and Welch would just be too much and Dennis Eckersley is just way too much of a shut down closer during this point in his career . I believe the Giants would fight and would make a series of it but at the end of the Series the Athletics would come out victorious and Get another WS title under their belt…
