NFL Super Bowl XLVII Review…

New Orleans, LA Superdome/#6 Baltimore Ravens (13-7) at #2 San Francisco 49ers (13-5-1): This was a game that the 49ers faithful was 100% behind. The 49ers were on their Quest for 6 and the Ravens were looking to send Rey Lewis off with 1 more title to solidify his career. Unfortunately for the faithful the 49ers could not complete their Quest for 6. The Ravens on the other hand started the game as if they came to play from kickoff to kickoff. The Ravens started the game hot on both sides of the ball they shut down Colin Kapernick and the 49ers vaunted pistol offense and managed to abuse the 49ers secondary with the hot arm of Joe Flacco. By the time the halftime whistle blew the 49ers were down 21-6 and the Ravens looked like they were going to run away with the game. Even as the 3rd quarter started the Ravens extended their lead to 28-6 on a 109 yard kickoff return by Jacoby Jones. Then came the blackout…

For 34 minutes the 49ers had time to think about what just happened, for over half an hour the Ravens had to lose momentum and steam off of their offense. This time proved to be crucial for both teams. But especially for the 49ers who managed to outscore the Ravens 25-6 after the blackout. The offense seemed to be clicking and the defense started making plays and it all came together to give the once dead in the water 49ers an opportunity to take the lead. An opportunity that the 49ers couldn’t capitalize on and it ended up costing them the Super Bowl title. The Ravens held on and Rey Lewis was sent out on top, the last major player to retire after winning a Super Bowl was John Elway who retired after winning 2 in a row. But I have to give it to the Ravens they played hard and well and with a little help from some non calls they were able to complete the run and hand the San Francisco 49ers their 1st loss in a Super Bowl in franchise history. And congrats to Joe Flacco who for a single post season looked more like  Joe Montana than Joe Flacco. To end this I will say congrats to Rey Lewis and the Super Bowl XLVIII Champion Baltimore Ravens…

Final Score: Ravens 34, 49ers 31

Super Bowl Champs: Baltimore Ravens

Super Bowl MVP: Ravens QB Joe Flacco
