GM Billy Bean (1998-current (15yrs), WS:0, EOY:0 , REC: 1226-1040): Now
this is one that I struggled with. I wanted to put him higher on the list, but
the fact that we haven’t been to a WS in his tenure that held me back. But he
is one of the most popular people in baseball and in the Bay Area. Billy Beane
has had some of the worst ownership when it came to spending money to keep
talent or to bring in top name free agents. So what did Bill do he created a
brand new way of looking at talent that allowed him to bring in people other
teams had given up on to work the new moneyball system he had created. The Athletics
played a lot of small ball and made it work on a limited budget. So the fact
that he was able to put this team in a position to win 1200+ games. So for this
reason and so many more Billy Beane is my #4 Bay Area Sports Icon…
