Double K’s Perspective: “ Who is the best WR of all time…”

During the past week of media during the Super Bowl week, San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss made the statement that he was the greatest WR to ever play the game. Now this kind of bothered me not because Randy doesn't deserve to be in the discussion about greatest of all time. But only that he should not be proclaiming it for the world to hear. This was a bold statement especially considering the uniform that Randy wears and the man that has worn it before him. But we will get to him later , Mr Moss has definintly had a Hall of Fame career no doubt and that includes the almost 16,000 yards and 156 TD’s both numbers that rank in the Top 5 all  time. And that is where I believe he belongs in the Top 5. Top 5 WR’s of all time I would even go as far as to say Top 3. So lets dig into that subject my Top 5 WR’s of all time….

#1 Jerry Rice, San Francisco 49ers – During the mid to late 80’s there was not a better wideout in the game. There were several that were close but none ever came close to what Jerry was on and off the field. As a model athlete as a mentor to younger WR’s like Terrell Owens and was the idol of even the great Randy Moss. What Jerry did in a 49ers uniform will never be duplicated….

#2 Randy Moss, Minnesota Vikings – Randy has had a pretty bumpy career, but when he came into this league he was a juggernaut and the reason why defenses felt the need to get bigger cornerbacks to combat his large size but they could never truly combat his size when it came to going up for jump balls. But overall Randy’s couple of years in Oakland and the 2nd time around in Minnesota, where Randy Moss 2 came out and took plays off and just want a good teammate something Jerry would ever be accused of…

#3 Michael Irvin, Dallas Cowboys – When I spoke of those that came close to matching Jerry’s greatness in the 80’s. That was Cowboys wideout Michael Irvin he had some off the field issues (to put it lightly). But on the field the man could not be stopped. His career earned him a spot in the Hall of Fame and I think it was well deserved. I don’t think that there was a cornerback that could stop him or even slow him down really (except for Dion Sanders). Once again though off the field issues keep him from earning the top spot…

#4Tim Brown, Oakland Raiders – Now this was another receiver that didn’t win a lot of rings. But he had a huge impact on the game. I had a friend that would always like to say that Tim Brown and Jerry Rice were the same receiver just Jerry never injured his leg Tim never had Joe Montana and Steve Young to throw him the ball. But if you swap one for the other maybe their fortunes would be reversed but for now time stands at number 4 on my list of all time greats….

#5 Terrell Owens, San Francisco 49ers – Most of us know him as TO the character that roamed the sidelines of the NFL for many years. And for many years I always wondered how a man who began his career sitting behind the man that sits at #1 on this list could end up being so divaish and could act like such a child at times. But at the end of the day I had to put him on the list. Mainly because when he was on the field there were not many corners in the league that could slow him down. Though his numbers are amazing I say again that the off the field antics and diva shows prevent mefrom putting him higher on this list…

So tell me what you would do if someone gave you a blank piece of paper and asked you. What are your Top 5 Wide Receivers of all time?...
