Now
last year the baseball season was full of intrigue. Lots of new people being
accused or found to be guilty of PED use, heck it was pitchers, hitters, All
Stars and not. But the overall theme to the season seemed to be making the
impossible come true. The Oakland Athletics did that taking down the Monstrous
Texas Rangers. The Giants winning another world series title after a very slow
start to the season. The fall of the
mighty with the Phillies who had all the talent in the world but couldn't put
it together. Same thing goes for the Angels who spent more in 1 off-season than
most teams spend in a decade and couldn't finish any higher than 3rd
in the West. But this new season brings us a lot of new stories for us to pay
attention to. Here are a couple to keep an eye out for during Spring Training…
.
A.
The
Toronto Blue Jays recent acquisition of talent: During this fevered
offseason the Blue Jays just seemed to keep coming up winners. 1st
they sign All Star OF Melky Cabrera after he was let go by the World Champs.
Then they proceeded to pick up SS Reyes and a couple of big time starting
pitchers in a blockbuster trade with the Marlins. Bolstering all three phases
of their game (Pitching, Offense and Defense). The Blue Jays made themselves
instant competition to the Yankees and the Orioles for the AL East title. Will
they well only games being played can tell that story…

B.
The
Los Angeles teams and their attempts to compete with money: Both the
Dodgers and the Angels have been on a spending spree the past couple of
seasons. Both teams have jumped into the top 10 in overall salary in the MLB.
The Angels have picked up some major hitters (Pujols/ Hamilton) to add to their
young guns (Trout, Trumbo, ect…) and even added some young pitching to give
themselves a pretty well rounded team. The Dodgers on the other hand have
filled their team with a bunch of named players in a bunch of big name trades
(Crawford, Punto) and offseason signings (Greinke). Same as their cross town
rivals they secured themselves youth and
depth in every phase of the game and it should make for 2 more contenders to
the scene come playoff time…
C.
Seattle
pays their man! Felix Hernandez
signs multi year deal with Mariners: Now this year has seemed to be the
year of getting paid for MLB. There have been people who have gotten contracts
over the past couple of years that were
just ridiculous. But all of them have been hitters who bring some power to the
lineup. But the Mariners went in a different direction in paying their All Star
Starting Pitcher “King” Felix Hernandez making him the highest paid pitcher in
baseball. Now we have to see over the next 7 years if he can live up to the
money he has been given to start this season….
