Game #2 – 80’s San
Francisco 49ers vs the 00’s New England Patriots…
New England Patriots
(2000-2010, HC: Bill Belichick, SB: 4, SBW: 3, DT: 8, REC: 126-50): The New
England Patriots found themselves with a new head coach and were hoping to make
a turn around that proverbial corner. Little did they know that would come from
the efforts of a 7th round pick. Tom Brady got the opportunity to
start when incumbent starter Drew Bledsoe went out for a significant amount of
time and Tome took over. It only took Belichick a few games to realize that he
had something special in Tom. This “something special” took them to 4 super
bowls and won them 3 as they went down as the team of the decade for that time
span. Modern day greats such as RB Corey Dillon and WR Randy Moss all played
for this team during that stretch run and the team they reminded me most of was
the team im going to talk about next….
San Francisco 49ers
(1980-1990, HC: Bill Walsh, SB: 4, SBW: 4, DT: 8, REC: 118-49): The 49ers
were the benchmark for the 80’s. From the arrival of Bill Walsh (79’) and Joe
Montana (80’) the 49ers just took off and began winning Division Titles and
eventually winning Super Bowl Titles. Future hall of famers like Ronnie Lott and
Roger Craig, Jerry Rice and John Taylor all made their marks on the football
world. During the 80’s there wasn’t really a team that could challenge the
49ers except for maybe the Cowboys who had some hall of famers like Irvin,
Aikman and Smith. But with a overall record of 118-49 including a 15-1 season
thrown in there the 49ers were the dominant team in the 80’s ending the decade
on a 9 year run of at least 10+ victories, that would continue on into the 90’s
and almost 00’s. Lets see how this one would turn out…
Synopsis: 49ers 28,
Patroits 21 – I just think that no matter who you put on the field if you
take the best of the best from these 10 49ers teams (1980-90). It would be just
too much on both sides of the ball for the Patriots in the 2000’s no team had a
defense that could compare with the defenses of old. So in my opinion it would
be a close game with the Patriots making it that way late after making some
halftime adjustments scoring all 21 points after halftime. Ultimately the 49ers
defense would clamp down and they would seal the game with a late Tom Brady
turnover that would seal the deal…
