2012-13 San Francisco
49ers (11-4-1,NFC West Champions, NFC Champions)
Offense (23rd
in the NFL, Passing: 3298yrds 23TD’s 8 INT’s, 4th in the NFL,
Rushing: 2491yrds 17TD’s 11FUM): The 49ers offense was a tale of two halves
of a season. In the 1st half lead by then starter QB Alex Smith who
was having another great season before he got hit by a Rams defender and
knocked out of the rest of his season. The 49ers offense struggled to pass the
ball under Alex and although they were still getting wins the offense seemed a
little inconsistent. Enter Colin Kapernick and an instant infusion of
excitement into the 49ers offense. Colin added an extra dimension to the
offense as a mobile QB with great speed. Colin did things that Alex couldn’t and
it made him indispensable to Head Coach Harbaugh and left him with a decision
to make for next season. Keep Alex or don’t keep Alex that is the question…
Defense (4th
in the NFL, Passing: 3203yrds 19TD’s 14INT’s, 4th in the NFL,
Rushing: 1507yrds 7TD’s 5FUM): The defense continued it amazing run of the
past couple of years. They finished in the Top 5 in both rushing and passing
yards against. The scary thing about this defense in short of Justin Smith all
of the key players on this defense are young. I expect to see everyone back and
maybe a pickup or 2 in the free agent market. The 49ers have all the pieces to
make another run at a Super Bowl. Can they do it well the games still have to
be played but the odds look in their favor. If they can get that one last piece
to put it all together. Till next year….for this year they get an A for more
than effort…
