2012-13 San Diego
Chargers (7-9, 2nd in the AFC West)
Offense (24th
in the NFL, Passing: 3295yrds 26TD’s 15INT’s, 27th in the NFL,
Rushing: 1461yrds 4TD’s 5FUM): The Chargers offense was one that had its
ups and downs this season. Lets start with the loss of RB Ryan Matthews early
to a collarbone injury. QB Phillip Rivers struggled with no running game to
back him up, And even though they continued to compete throughout the season.
They could never put it together even when Matthews came back the team still couldn’t
put it together. The season went south after the 2nd collarbone injury
to Matthews. The positive thing is that they will be returning most of their
starters and can build through the draft and compete with the Raiders and
Bronco’s for a division title….
Defense (18th
in the NFL, Passing: 3681yrds 28TD’s 14INT’s, 6th in the NFL,
Rushing: 1542yrds 10TD’s 9FUM): The defense on the other hand performed at
least averagely. They finished in the Top 10 against the run and Top 20 against
the pass, these numbers can improve and will as the defense gets another year
older. They will most likely lose Shaun Phillips to free agency so they will
need to fill that hole either in free agency or the draft. But other than that they will perform just as
well as ever. Starting with S Eric Weddle the Chargers look to be a team to
watch out for in the 2013 season on offense and on defense…..
