Double K’s Top 5 West Coast Sports Stories of 2012: “#4 Oakland Athletics magical season and Playoff Run…”
#4 The Oakland
Athletics win the AL West out of nowhere and lost to the Tigers in the ALDS: To
begin the 2012 baseball season I thought that the Oakland Athletics had put
together a pretty good lineup and with a little luck they could very well “challenge”
the Rangers for the division title. And as the all star break crept closer the
Athletics kept looking better and better. As they lost veteran players they
would seem to replace them with players that were as good or better. They made

couple of huge hits down the stretch. But it was the young pitching staff led by Tommy Milone as
the Athletics lost pitcher after pitcher to injury or other things (Colon was
suspended for use of PED’s). They would seem to bring up another young pitcher
who would jump in and get the job done. They performed so well that the
Athletics had an amazing run that was cut short by the Tigers in the Divisional
Round but left A’s fans with hope for the coming years…
