Double K’s Top 5 West Coast Sports Stories of 2012: “#4 Oakland Athletics magical season and Playoff Run…”




#4 The Oakland Athletics win the AL West out of nowhere and lost to the Tigers in the ALDS: To begin the 2012 baseball season I thought that the Oakland Athletics had put together a pretty good lineup and with a little luck they could very well “challenge” the Rangers for the division title. And as the all star break crept closer the Athletics kept looking better and better. As they lost veteran players they would seem to replace them with players that were as good or better. They made some interesting pickups during the season (Inge and Drew) that all had a couple of huge hits down the stretch. But it was the  young pitching staff led by Tommy Milone as the Athletics lost pitcher after pitcher to injury or other things (Colon was suspended for use of PED’s). They would seem to bring up another young pitcher who would jump in and get the job done. They performed so well that the Athletics had an amazing run that was cut short by the Tigers in the Divisional Round but left A’s fans with hope for the coming years…
