Now
if you have been reading the perspective for the past couple of weeks then you
know that I have been going over the sports year of 2012. We have covered the
magnificent seasons of the Oakland A’s, World Champion San Francisco Giants and
Los Angeles Kings. This week we are going to cover the two polar opposite
seasons that took place. In the football world we had the emergence of the San
Francisco 49ers as a powerhouse team in the NFC and the signing of the great
Peyton Manning by the Denver Broncos. Who shipped off Tim Tebow to go “challenge”
Mark Sanchez in New York. It was a crazy offseason and I know I for one couldn’t
wait to get it started…..
As
the preseason began the hopes were high for all teams. Coming into the season
the Raiders and the 49ers looked like potential playoff teams with the 49ers looking
to repeat their run from last year. But both these teams took different paths through
this season as the Raiders started slow had a small run in the middle of the
season getting back to .500 but ultimately fell and ended the season on a 5 or
6 game losing streak and ending up with a Top 5 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. The
49ers on the other hand had a season that started out hot and cooled off in the
milled of the season after a beating they took to the defending Super Bowl
champs at home. But they righted the ship and ended up with the #2 seed in the
NFC and with a bye for the 1st round of the playoffs. That ended their
2012 season and made Jim Harbaugh a complete celebrity in the Bay Area…
Simultaneously
we had the start of the NBA season and the growth and surprise hot starts of
the Clippers and the Warriors. And also the slow decline of the Los Angeles
Lakers and their superstar center Dwight Howard. Lets start where we will end in
LA. The Clippers have put together a monster team that is deep at almost every
position and can run with the best teams in the League including the Champion
Heat. But Blake Griffin and Chris Paul have found themselves their own connection
that is making them the team to watch in LA. If you come up the coast the
Warriors are seeing similar results out of their roster after making a big
trade for center Andrew Bogut late last season. But the picks they made in the draft and
bringing in Carl Landry and jarret Jack has seemed to bring a lot of depth to
this bench and allowed the Warriors to play hot early even without their
potential All Star center Bogut. Which just means when they get him back they
will only get better, Now the story with the Lakers is one of disappointment. They
started this season with (on paper) pretty much the best team in the league short
of the Heat. But overall if the Lakers don’t turn it around this season could
be a real debacle. That is the year Jan to Dec so as we move on into the New
Year and make many new memories…see you in 2014…
