Going back to the end of last season I have become progressively
more interested with what is going on in Golden State. Towards the end of the
2011-12 season the Warriors (now under new management) made a trade that at the
time I didn’t see the value of. The traded away the high scoring and highly
athletic Monte Ellis for often injured Andrew Bogut. I believe there was a
couple of picks involved as well? But it looked like we got rid of points for
someone who has been injured on a regular basis in recent years. But as I sat
down and thought about it I began to like the move more and more. Then the free
agent period started and knowing that the Warriors had no chance at a lot of
the top free agents because of limitations in the Salary Cap. But they went out
and made some great low cost moves. #1 Resigning Brandon Rush: This was huge
because in years to come he will be huge off of the bench having signed a 3
year deal. #2 signing Jarrett Jack: This has become evident as the season has
progressed that Jack can play both guard positions well and has been putting up
points off of the bench this season (including a HUGE 22pts in a win vs. Heat).
#3 Signing Carl Landry: This was huge because it gave us experienced depth at
the Forward and Center positions. And he also provides a level of toughness the
team hasn’t experienced in awhile…
The next place in which the Warriors bulked up was thru the
draft. They drafted a starting SF in rookie Harrison Barnes (UNC) who has been
amazing and is definitely is a candidate for Rookie of the Year. Later in the 1st
round the Warriors the Warriors picked up a scrappy big man who will need to
improve his offensive game. But he has been huge with Bogut out for awhile. The
biggest so far has been 2nd round pick Dreymond Green! He has been
huge for the Warriors this season coming off the bench (including hitting the
game winning shot in the game against the Heat). But between him and Landry the
Warriors have some serious depth. This new found depth has led the Warriors to
a 2nd place position in the Pacific division only 2 games behind the
Clippers…..That’s right I said the division leading Clippers! They also have
some key victories over the Heat and Clippers showing that this young Warriors
team can run with the best of them. And as far as I’m concerned the Warriors
will be a contending playoff team and look to be that way for years to come… GO
WARRIORS!!!
