2012-13 Phoenix Suns: Position by Position Breakdown

Position: Center

Starter: Marcin Gotat (12.3ppg, 10.4rpg, 3.3bpg)

Backup(s): Jemaine O’Neal (1.3ppg, 3.3rpg, 1.3bpg), Luke Zellar (3.5ppg, 0.5rpg, 0.0bpg)

Synopsis: This Suns team has a little bit of depth this season at the center position. The incumbent starter is Marcin Gortat a big man who has a lot of upside if used right in the right system. And I think Phoenix has the right system, he seems to be working well in the system they use so far. Its not many big men out there who are averaging a double double on the season. And Gortat is one of them, He can start and succeed and he knows Dwight Howard well as he was his backup for multiple years in Orlando. But the backup is pretty much just as good as the starter in this case. Jermaine O’Neal was a solid center in his early years but as of lately has been an extremely serviceable backup for Gortat and he can also be a spot starter from time to time if the starter needs rest. And Luke Zeller is a young stud center who can earn minuets by practicing well and continuing to produce when given the opportunity. But for now he will ride the bench as O’Neal and Gortat eat up most of the minuets at the center position….
