Now going into this game I thought just like everyone else.
That this was going to be a battle of Titans. Two of the best defenses facing
off against good offenses. Now the advantage went to the 49ers because they had
retooled this offseason. Also because 2 of the Giants best players from last
year were now Niners. But evidently the Giants didn’t believe the hype as they
came into San Francisco with a chip on their shoulders. The 49ers seem to come
into this game content to be playing football at the NFL level. But overall
this game was not a huge statement for the 49ers it was a huge statement for
the Giants as they said loud and clear that they are ready to defend their
title against the best of the best….
Game #6 – New York
Giants at San Francisco 49ers
Offense: C- (A.Smith
19/30 200yrds 3INT’s, F.Gore 8/36yrds, R.Moss 2/75yrds): The offense looked
horrible out there. This is the worst and most ineffective I have seen this
offense unit look since Harbaugh got there. Alex Smith looked like he just couldn’t
find the Red jerseys when he needed to. Frank Gore only put up an anemic 36yrds
on the ground. And the receivers just couldn’t seem to find the open spots on
the field or the Giants defense wasn’t leaving any. So overall a pretty
pathetic performance that I hope to see them bounce back from this performance
with some vigor the same way they did after the bad performance in Minnesota…
Defense: C (Passing
Yrds All. 193yrds, Rushing Yrds All. 149yrds, 0TO): The problem with this
game over most is that the 49ers defense is the one facet of the game that is
supposed to always be stout. And I will say that anytime that you hold Eli
Manning to less than 200 yards in the air. That is a feat in itself, but when
you give him a short field thru most of the game and they were not able to stop
the running game. Amhad Bradshaw was a
beast he took the 49ers front 7 and made them look like high schoolers on the field.
But they too have a chance to bounce back against a division opponent in Seattle
this Thursday…
Special Teams: C+ (Punt
Return Yrds 2/22yrds, Kick Return Yrds 6/116yrds): The special teams was
about the only bright spot for the 49ers in this game. The Kick return game was
pretty effective averaging 15-20yrds per return. But outside of that there was
never really a chance to do much as the Giants special teams were fast quick
and effective all game long. Once again something I hope to see improved in
this Thursday’s game…
Final Score: Giants
26, 49ers 3
