This was a series that went a little different than I thought
that it would. The Giants dug themselves a big hole and when I say big I mean a
3-1 hole. The Cardinals were one win away from advancing to their 2nd
World Series in a row. And they looked like it was going to happen. Then the
Giants did what they do and did in the
previous round and won 3 in a row and bounced back to advance to the World
Series in a huge game 7 in San Francisco.
Now the Giants find themselves facing the AL Cy Young award winner and
the Triple Crown winner and Prince Fielder too. Good Luck with that!...
2012 NLCS – San Francisco
Giants (4), St.Louis Cardinals (3)
Batting: STL B-/SF
B+: The hitting in this series was pretty good with both teams hitting
well. But the Giants ended up pulling out all of the big hits in the series.
Down the stretch the entire Giants lineup seemed to be hot with every hitter seeming
to come up with huge hits when it was necessary. But the true star of the
series with an average of 2+ hits a game was 2B Marco Scutro he had a 10 game hitting
streak in the postseason. The Cardinals seem to come up short in every big
situation including leaving 11 runners on base in the final game to come one
win short of their dream of repeating…
Starting Pitching:
STL C+/SF B: The starting pitching was as different as night and day. With
the Giants having very stout and amazing starting pitcher including from
Lincecum and Zito 2 of the biggest let downs in recent years. They both came up
huge in their starts and helped propel the Giants to their 2nd World
Series in the past 3 years. The
Cardinals on the other hand looked like they were going to pull off the impossible
they were going to return to the series despite losing their top pitcher early
in the season, and losing their best hitter in the offseason. But that would be
why they are not advancing no ace no win…
Bullpen: STL C+/SF
B+: The bullpen for the Cardinals continuously gave up run after run. Never
really allowing them to fight their way back into a lot of the games in this
series. With letdown after letdown this postseason they may be doing some
rebuilding this offseason. The Giants showed a lot of guts and grit with their
makeshift bullpen that didn’t really come together until late in the season.
But Sergio Romo looks to be the solid choice for closer in the series. He was
clutch when they needed him all series long don’t look for that to stop anytime
soon…
