2012 ALDS: Detroit Tigers vs Oakland Athletics…

The amazing run of the Oakland Athletics came to a screeching halt at the hands of a very solid and outstanding pitcher in Justin Verlander. The Tigers did put up a great run with their bats in the final game. After an amazing home run of 5 consecutive victories (including the 3 game sweep of the Rangers). And I thought that they could pull it off, I thought that the Oakland A’s could get the job done at home. But alas I was wrong the reigning AL MVP and Cy Young award winner was too much for the Athletics to overcome and in the final game the Tigers took the series…

ALDS – Detroit Tigers (3), Oakland Athletics (2)

Offense: The offense of the Oakland Athletics came to life during game 3 and late in game 4 . there was also a big push of offense in Game 2 as well. The only 2 games in which the Oakland Athletics struggles are the 2 games that ace pitcher Justin Verlander started and having 2 guaranteed wins in a 5 game series is huge for any team. So the bats were cooled off and the Athletics were made to look merely human as they were shutdown…

Pitching: Well considering the fact that the Athletics starters were young (3 out of 4 starters were rookies) I think that they did an amazing job against a very tough lineup. They had Prince Fielder and Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera and both of them were shut down pretty effectively during the 1st 4 games of this series. Parker and Griffin and Milone took on a huge task and did the best that they could. The one bright spot was the pitching of Brett Anderson to get back into the series in Game 3. Look out for this pitching staff next year because the Athletics are going to be dangerous…

Bullpen: The bullpen of both teams had their good moments and their bad moments. Like Ryan Cook blowing the save and the hold in Game 2. The Tigers had their mistakes as well like their closer blowing the save in Game 4 allowing 3 runs in the 9th inning. But it was the lack of use of the Tigers bullpen in Game 5 is what hurt the most the Athletics couldn’t get to the Starting pitcher and drive him out of the game and that is what cost them the series. But a great effort by the bullpen none the less. Cant wait for next season…Till then…Class is dismissed…
