Hello student today we are doing some review work. The game
that we are going to review is the NFL Week 4 matchup between the Raiders and
the Broncos. Now normally the matchup between two 1-2 teams wouldn’t be a blip
on the radar of sports news. But this is the Raiders and Broncos a rivalry that
dates back as far as I can remember. Then you add to that the fact that the
Broncos signed Payton Manning in the offseason and he has yet to have that breakthrough
game against an opponent. Will that game come this Sunday against the Raiders…
Game #4 – Oakland Raiders
at Denver Broncos
Offense: OAK: B-/DEN:
B: The Raiders offense came to life late in the game against the Steelers
last Sunday. Propelling them to their 1st win in the Dennis Allen
era. Carson Palmer looked sharp but can he carry that momentum into this game
against a Broncos defense that will be up for the challenge. The Raiders will
be without their star wide out Darius Heyward- Bey due to concussion issues so
Carson will have to find other targets like McFadden to throw to. Payton Manning
hasn’t exactly been up to his old tricks in Denver. Their offense is a work in
process as Payton learns his receivers and his running backs and how to utilize
them in his offense. They showed signs of brilliance against Pittsburgh to open
the season but have fell flat since. We will see what happens…
Defense: OAK: B/DEN:
B+: The Raiders defense as well had a revival of sorts late in last weeks
game. They will have a lot to deal with as the crowd in Denver can get loud. But
most of the players on defense have been here before and know how to block it
out. Can they put pressure on Manning that is what will make or break this
defense. If they can do that they will keep the game competitive and if the
offense can get off the ground the Raiders just may win this game. As for Denver’s
defense if they continue to play like they did in the 1st week then
they will give Payton and company an opportunity to get the win. A opportunity
Payton wont let get away…
Special Teams: OAK:
B+/DEN: C+: The Kick and Punt Return
units for both these teams are slightly above average. The thing that separates
the Raiders is their Kickers they are both Pro Bowlers and they know how to
come thru in the clutch. Don’t get me wrong Denver has a decent kicking unit.
But not as good as the Raiders not any day of the week…
Final Score: Broncos
28, Raiders 21
