Week 3 Review: San Francisco 49ers (2-1) vs Minnesota Vikings (2-1)…

Welcome back students I talk to you today a little ashamed of the 49ers this week. Not only did they lose to Minnesota but they did it in a very ugly fashion. Alex Smith had his 1st pick since last year. The 49ers turned the ball over 3 times in the game. The defense was stunned by a young QB having his coming out party. Christian Ponder showed that he was worth the 1st round draft pick the Vikings used on him. Ponder abused the best defense in NFL and made them look weak. While the 49ers offensive line was made to look like rookies out there. But now on to the grades…

Game #3 – San Francisco 49ers at Minnesota Vikings

Offense: C (A.Smith 24/35 204yrds 1TD, 1INT, F.Gore 12/63yrds, 5/53yrds 1TD): The 49ers offense struggled through this game. Committing a season high 3 turnovers (1 INT, 2 FUM) the offense looked inept. Alex and crew tried to pull it together late and worked their way back into the game. It just wasn’t enough. While on the other side of the ball the Vikings offense looked like a well oiled machine with second year QB Christian Ponder hitting receiver after receiver moving the ball down the field and even scoring on a rushing TD. The Viking definitely looked like the better offense on this Sunday…

Defense: C- (Passing Yrds All. 198yrds, Rushing Yrds All. 146yrds, 2TO): The defense didn’t play much better. The cornerbacks that looked so efficient and dominant against the Packers and Lions and their passing threat. Looked lost against the Vikings wide outs and the young Ponder. But as I said many times on the day of the game this game was more about how good the Vikings played than how bad the 49ers struggled. The Vikings seemed to sack Alex Smith 10-15 times they were in his face on almost every play and never let up the whole game thru overall good performance for them but not for the 49ers….

Special Teams: C (Punt Return Yrds: 2/24yrds, Kick Return Yrds: 4/193yrds): The 49ers actually did a pretty good job on Special Teams as they amassed almost 200 yards on Kick Returns. They looked pretty good against the Vikings punt and Kick return units. But the ineptness of the offense and defense lead to the Special Teams effort going for not…

Final Score: Vikings 24, 49ers 13

Overall: D+
