Welcome back students… This week is a joyous week as the
49ers wont their 8th or 9th consecutive win over the
Lions in San Fran. But the thing that made this win impressive is the dominant
fashion in which it happened. And although the 49ers consecutive games w/o a
turnover streak ended after 6 games. Alex Smith continued his streak of
consecutive attempts without an INT extending it to 200+ throws. But overall
the 49ers performed well never training at all during the whole game and every
time the Lions got close the 49ers made another great play to pull away…
Game #2 – Detroit Lions
at San Francisco 49ers
Offense: B (A.Smith
20/31 226yrds 2TD’s, F.Gore 17/83yrds 1TD, V.Davis 5/73yrds 2TD’s): The
49ers offense looked great. They went out and executed, Alex Smith was patient
with the football. Frank Gore came up with huge runs when it was needed. Wide Receiver
Michael Crabtree and Alex looked particularly connected on a series late in the
4th quarter where they hooked up on three 3rd down and
long situations for 1st downs. The longer these two are in this
offense the scarier they become…
Defense: B+ (Passing
Yrds All. 230yrds, Rushing Yrds All. 82yrds): The defense on the other hand
looked as good as it did last week against the Packers. For the 2nd
week in a row the 49ers defense stumped its 2nd 5000 yard passer
from a year ago. Both Rodgers and Stafford looked confused out there at times.
But the defense couldn’t keep them off the board all day as they allowed a late
touchdown to Brandon Pettigrew. But overall it was a great game and the defense
was the All Star as usual…
Special Teams: C+
(Punt Ret. 8yrds, Kick Ret. 85yrds): The Special Teams had the only flaw of
the game when Returner Kendall Hunter fumbled the ball in the 1st
quarter. But outside of that fopa the rest of the game the Special Teams made
great decisions and allowed for the 49ers to have decent field position all
game. So the return of Ted Ginn Jr soon should be a boost for the 49ers Special
Teams when he returns….
Final Score: 49ers
27, Lions 19
Overall: B+
