Week 2 Preview: Detroit Lions (1-0) vs San Francisco 49ers (1-0)…

Welcome students today we are again in preview mode. This week we are talking about a game that was extremely closely contested last season in Detroit. The 49ers went into Ford Field and took it to the Detroit Lions and after a close game. The 49ers were victorious… and then there was the handshake…the handshake that makes this a rivalry now. The 49ers must defend home court and continue their win streak over the Lions. And you know what I think they can…

Game #2 – Detroit Lions vs San Francisco 49ers

Offense: SF: A-/DET: A : The 49ers offense performed well last week on the road in Packer land. They didn’t make a single mistake as far as turnovers go and they ran the ball extremely well. Can they do the same against a young and good Lions defense? I believe they can Alex Smith Is getting better by the game in Harbaughs offense and this should just be another step. Detroit’s offense struggled last week against the Rams. And not to sound cocky but the Rams defense is nowhere near the defense the 49ers have. So I expect Stafford to struggle against a very good 49ers front 7 that tortured Aaron Rodgers last week…

Defense: SF: A/DET: B+: The defense is going to have issues shutting down Calvin Johnson Jr. But then again most teams have trouble completely shutting him down. So the 49ers defensive backs need to bring their A game to Candlestick on Sunday. Or they will get burnt by a young group of Lions receivers. But like I said earlier I think that the 49ers D line will be in the face of Stafford all night long and they will force him into a lot of bad throws and throw  aways. As for the Lions defense they are as strong on the dline as the 49ers but they are a bit behind at the linebacker position and corner as well. This is encouraging with the new weapons the 49ers have on offense…

Special Teams: SF: B+/DET: B: This is where the 49ers should shine with a returning Ted Ginn (I believe?) the punt and kick return game should get a boost. And David Akers is going to be the “Future Hall of Fame” Kicker that he is. The 49ers special teams should be fine. The Lions special teams wasn’t that special in Saint Louis last week. So expect them to come out gunning but the 49ers should be able to keep them in check…

Final Game Result: 49ers 28, Lions 21
