Welcome students today I want to talk to you about a little
something called confidence. That’s right I said confidence. The reason we are
going to be talking about this is because I recently read an article where
Oakland Athletics rookie outfielder Yoenis Cespedes tells the media that he
will not rest or take time off until the Athletics have won a championship….
Now
these are pretty strong words coming from a first year player in Major League
Baseball. But I will tell you that as a Oakland Athletics fan it makes me
happy. Why? Because this team has not had players with that type of dedication
in a long time. That kind of heart. Now that is not to say that the Athletics have
not had some very talented players on their rosters over previous years. But
this roster has something special being that for the most part this is a very
young team. And they are very good from the young pitching staff to the young
hitters. I will tell you this much if even half the guys on the roster think
like Yoenis. Then the Athletics have a good chance come this postseason. I know
that as a fan my view of what’s happening in Oakland is a little skewed. But
even as a fan of baseball I can look at the Athletics and see that special
spark that you see when your team has put it all together. So as I watch the
rest of this season I hope to see Mr. Cespedes in every game swinging that bat
as hard as he can. And trying to bring a championship to the East Bay that has
been starved for one for many years….
So
see students when we look for confidence and also look for role models look to
young guys like this A’s rookie and try to be as dedicated to something in your
life as he is to bringing home that title. Go home and think on it till then….Class
is Dismissed….
