Double K’s Perspective: The NL Wild Card Race…

Ok students today we are going to talk about the 2 teams that are still alive with less than 10 games left in the season. These 2 teams still have hope to maybe sneak in and take the 2nd Wild Card spot from the defending champs. No one is catching the Braves by the way. Who are these teams you may ask? Well 1st up is the LA Dodgers still fighting for their lives and 2nd is the Milwaukee Brewers both teams have strong pitching and hitting but both will have to win out in order to even hope to take the spot…

3) LA Dodgers (82-75, 3GB for WC2, 41hmwins, 41rdwins): Now I have spoken t length about how wrong I was predicting the Dodger would secure one of the Wild Card spots and advance to the post season. Its looking like they would pretty much need to win all 5 of their last games and hope that the Cardinals lose at least 3 of theirs. I don’t see that happening but with all the big moves that the Dodgers franchise made this season they are poised to make a run at the NL West title. Gonzalez, Eithier, Kemp are all locked up for years to come. So expect the Dodgers to keep it interesting till the final game, but fall short at the end of the season…

4) Milwaukee Brewers (80-77, 5GB for WC2, 46hmwins, 34rdwins: The Brewers have a fighting team but at this point I believe that the cards would have to fall a very unconventional way and both the Cardinals and the Dodgers would have to lose all of their games and the Brewers would have to win all of theirs. Not that the Brewers couldn’t go on that run its just that the Dodgers and Cardinals aren’t likely to go on their losing streaks necessary to make it happen so very soon the Brewers should be looking to next year. But expect them to be competing for a wild card spot next year and for years to come…
