Double K’s Perspective: The AL Wild Card Race…

Welcome Back Students in todays perspective we are going to discuss the final 3  teams in the AL Wild Card race these teams sit as much as 5.5 games behind both Oakland and Baltimore for the 2 Wild Card spots that are available. But with less than 20 games to go in the season it is going this race is about to heat up. And from the looks of it this is going to be a close race going all the way till the end. So keep your eyes open for these teams in the coming weeks cause things are about to get interesting…

3) Los Angeles Angels (82-69, 3.5 GB WC2 spot, 42 HmWins, 40 RdWins): The Angels were a bit of a disappointment this season. They were supposed to be competing with the Rangers for the AL West title. Not barley competing with anybody for a playoff spot. They have a very strong lineup and pitching staff that just under achieved. But they are only three and a half games behind the Athletics for the second Wild Card spot so they are still in it. So to speak but unless they turn it around against the AL West they will be sitting out of the playoffs…

4) Tampa Bay Rays (81-70, 4.5 GB WC2 spot, 42 HmWins, 39 RdWins): The Tampa Bay Rays are a scary team come this time of year. They have a line up that can put up runs in a hurry even over the best pitching staff. They also have a pitching staff that can come out and shutdown even the strongest lineup in all of baseball. This is a team that both Baltimore and Oakland wouldn’t want to see a one game playoff. But the Rays keep winning so hopefully both Oakland and Baltimore can hold pat and keep their spots and hold the Rays out…

5) Detroit Tigers (79-70, 5.5 GB WC2 spot, 45 HmWins, 34 RdWins): The Tigers as well are a scary team that is built for this time of year. They can win games by a lot if the big bats in their lineup go off. The young pitching staff lead by veteran  ace Justin Verlander can compete with the best of them and would be a real threat in a one game playoff against any team in the AL.  But at this point they are the furthest back from a Wild Card spot I believe they are closer to a division title than a Wild Card spot. But still keep your eye on them this season…
