Double K’s Perspective: The AL Wild Card Race…

Now welcome back students… today we are going to go outside the box that is the standard classroom. And venture to a place where we can get a little more perspective. There is a wild race going on in Baseball’s American League. A Wild Card Race to be exact. This year the execs in MLB baseball thought it would make baseball more interesting to add a second Wild Card spot. I will tell you that this season is much more interesting as well with 6 teams within 6 games of the 2 WC spots available. We are going to examine them and their chances one team at a time in Double K’s Perspective. Today’s team perspective is the Oakland Athletics who sit in the #1 WC spot a half game above Baltimore…

1   1)      WC 1 Oakland Athletics (84-63  3GB in AL West, 44 HmWns, 40 RdWns): The Athletics have been somewhat of an anomaly. At certain points this season the Athletics have looked like a team that could win the World Series. During other times they have looked like a team that could barley make the playoffs. As of recently they have been hot. Which has me thinking that they could possibly catch the Rangers for the division lead but if that doesn’t happen. The Athletics are deep at key positions and definitely have the ability to win a one game playoff against any AL team. But as the playoffs get closer and they inch closer to securing the WC berth the  Athletics will continue to look good and lean on their young pitchers to get them to the promiseland. I will just sit back and watch as the magic happens in Oakland….again….

That is all for today check back in the next couple of days to see our review of the Yankees and Orioles as they battle for the final Wild Card spot. Till then class is dismissed…
