Double K’s 2012 Pac-12 Preview (Part 2: The South)…

Welcome back students yesterday we talked about the Pac 12 North. That division featured the Organ Ducks as the most likely candidate to win the division and advance to the 2nd annual Pac 12 Championship game. This division is just as difficult division to choose as the last with one team really standing out as a favorite. That team is the #1 USC Trojans who are coming off of NCAA sanctions and are finally able to compete for a National Title…

#1 USC Trojans (10-2, 7-2 Pac 12, 1-1 vs Top 25): The Trojans were a powerhouse team last season finishing 1st in this division. But unfortunately for last years team they were ineligible for post season play and didn’t even get to play in the Pac 12 championship game. But this year they are eligible for the post season and look to become the 1st team since the 2004 Trojans to hold #1 wire to wire….

Arizona State Sun Devils (6-7, 4-5 Pac 12, 2-2 vs Top 25): The Sun Devils were a sub .500 team last season and I expect the same thing from them this year they may improve slightly but that is unlikely. Look for them to equal th 6 from last year or end up with about 4 and bottom of the division…

UCLA Bruins (6-8, 5-4 Pac 12, 1-3 vs Top 25): Although the Bruins played in the championship game last season. It was pretty much dumb luck and a “right place, right time” type situation. I don’t expect them to repeat that feat this year. But after what I saw in Game 1 expect them to compete and the USC/UCLA game at the end of the season to mean something…

Utah Utes (8-5, 4-5 Pac 12, 0-1 vs Top 25): The Utes finished 3 games over .500 but still couldn’t finish above .500 in their 1st year in the new Pac 12. I expect big things from the Utes they were a young team last year. Event though I don’t expect them to compete for a conference title they will be in the hunt for a bowl game…

Arizona Wildcats (4-8, 2-7 Pac 12, 0-3 vs Top 25): The Wildcats were definintly better than a 4 win team last year but just couldn’t put it together. This year I think it will click look for the Wilcats to be around the 7-8 win mark they are good enough and return enough starters from last year to get it done. Once again wont be winning any titles but may bring home a Bowl trophy…

Colorado Buffaloes (3-10, 2-7 Pac 12, 0-3 vs Top 25): The only issues with the Buffaloes is that they haven’t gotten any better since last season. They have added some pieces that may make them better than a 4 win team but not much better. Look for Colorado to win about 4-5 games 6 if they are lucky. But they wont be making much noise in the Pac 12 this year…

Well students it looks like this is pretty much the Trojans division to lose. As long as they stay the course they should be headed for a collision with the Oregon Ducks in the Pac 12 championship game. And I belive that game will be for a trip to the National Title game but we will see. There is a long season ahead of us. Till Then my students…Class is Dismissed….
