Welcome back students today we are going to talk about
legacy. That’s right I said legacy the reason we are going to be talking about
this subject. For those of you who don’t know a legacy is something that
athlete’s leave behind for the masses to remember them by. For example Joe
Montana’s 49ers legacy will be remembered by the 4 Super Bowls he led them to.
Magic Johnson is going to be remembered by the championships that he brought to
LA during the show time years. The athlete we will be discussing today is Lance
Armstrong….
Recently
Lance just finished a long battle with the Cycling commission that was accusing
him of doping. Lance respectfully declined to defend himself in this matter.
And though I understand his point that he didn’t want to fight a losing battle
that he was only going to come out of it looking like a cheater no matter what.
But still not to profess your innocence from the rooftops sends a whole
different message to the public. What did you have to hide Lance? What did the commission
have on you that you didn’t want made public? Why is it that the punishment was
so severe if the evidence that they have is so light or false? I cant answer
any of these questions myself. I have no proof I haven’t seen any paperwork. All
I know is what my eyes saw for many years and that was a man on a bike who
dominated the field in the name of his country the US of A. So what will be
Lances ultimate legacy….Cheater that is probably how he will be remembered as a
cheater. For me he will be remembered as a true champion who fought and won a
battle not many of us would have survived. He may have cheated in the eyes of
the cycling world but for me it dosent matter because he was still much better
than most of his competition the years he won anyway in the mountain courses
that is. But needless to say hopefully with the sanctions levied against him we
can leave the man to live his life in peace and enjoy all that he has
accomplished post-retirement….
So
students remember that even our greatest hero has fallen from grace but its how
we remember him that will make a difference. I say remember the good times and
not the bad and let his indiscretions go and stand proud that we support lance.
Till next time…Class is Dismissed….
