Preseason Week 3: San Francisco 49ers (1-1) vs Denver Broncos (1-1)…

Welcome back students to another day in the classroom today we are going over another preseason game. This time it’s the immortal Payton Manning against the vaunted 49ers defense. And I will tell you that in the couple of series that Payton was out there he looked good. But the 49ers linebackers and D-linemen put Payton to the test for sure hitting him time after time and doing it hard. But now lets get to the grades…

Score: 49ers 29, Broncos 24…

Offense: C+ (Passing Yards: 165yrds, Rushing Yards: 139yrds): The offense in this game struggled thru this game. The Denver Broncos 1st team defense played very well against the 49ers starters. The offense as a whole looked average but played well enough to get the win like they did so many times last season…

Quarterbacks: C (C.Kapernick 4/4 80yrds, A.Smith 5/7 69yrds 1TD): The quarterbacks in this game didn’t play up to there full potential but coach Harbaugh did run the ball quite a bit. But I didn’t necessarily see anyone stand out or shine in this game like previous games. Alex looked good as he led the team on a TD drive with a 44 yard bomb to Vernon Davis…

Running Backs: B- (A.Dixon 13/58yrds, 1TD, R.Cartwright 8/32yrds): This was a big breakout game for Anthony Dixon who was dangerously close to being cut just because of lack of roster spots at his position. Both Dixon and Cartwright had bright moments in the second half leading the 49ers on a couple of FG drives late. Overall best part of the offense was the run game…

Wide Receivers: C+ (K.Williams 1/46yrds, V.Davis 1/44yrds 1TD): The wideouts in the game did play well but as I mentioned earlier. The OC was calling a lot of running plays in this game so there wasn’t a lot of opportunities. But overall they made the most of the catches they did make including the Vernon Davis 44 yard TD catch…

Defense: C+ (Passing Yards: 265yrds, Rushing Yards: 83yrds):  The defense showed its depth in this game by doing better in the 2nd half against the Broncos 2nd and 3rd team offense. The Defense showed that our backups can go hard. So in the grand scheme of things the defense wasn’t spectacular but it was impressive. I will take away from this that Vic Faggio has a lot to work with this year…

Overall: C
