My Final Thoughts on the 2012 London Olympics…

Well students welcome back to class. Today we are going to talk about the Olympics. It’s a wonderful subject to talk about ad we only really get to discuss it every 2 years or so. This year we had plenty of storylines to lead us into the London edition of the games. You had the Olympic Gymnastics team wondering how good they really were. You had the battle in the water between reigning Olympic hero Michael Phelps and up and coming Ryan Lochte. You had the grand debate of Team USA vs the original Dream Team who could beat up on the rest of the world better. And coming out of this years Olympics you have even better ones that we will cover today…

1.USA Woman’s Soccer takes Gold over Japan: After a hard fought victory to get into the Gold Medal game. The US Womens Soccer team met an old rival for the Gold Medal in London. The entire country held its breath as the Women went about doing what they could not due at the last World Cup and beat the Japanese women 2-1 behind 2 goals from F Carla Lloyd. This was the US teams 3rd straight gold medal in the Olympics. So definitely a huge win and medal pickup for the US…

2. Ryan Lochte vs Michael Phelphs (ones coming up while one is bowing out after an amazing career!): Coming into the London Olympics Michael Phelps  was already pretty much the most decorated Olympic athlete of this generation. Michael and Ryans paths had crossed many times with Michael coming out the victor most times.  But to start this years Olympiad Michael failed to medal in a race that Ryan took Gold in, And it looked as if the torch was being passed. Then came the relay events and in one particular even Lochte shows that the relay wasn’t his strongest event losing to another swimmer in the final leg of a match in which the US dominated. Then Michael Phelps decided to show up and out of his next 6 events he medaled in like 4-5 taking home 2 more Gold Medals. And bringing his career medals total to 22 (18 Gold). Proving yet again that Michael Phelps is not only the most decorated but the best swimmer of our generation…

3. Gabriel Douglas and the Fabulous 4 Gymnastics team (Jordyn Wieber,McKayla Maroney, Kyla Ross, Alexandra Raisman) win Gold:  In what was by far the shocker of the 2012 London Olympics The US Olympic Gymnastics team did not come in as the favorites to take the Gold Medal in their events. But they came in with a lot of heart and a lot of faith in themselves. Bringing home 3 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 bronze in the Gymnastics events at the Summer Olympics. This is the best that the US has done in the past couple of Olympics. The great thing about it is that these girls are still young and may compete to bring home more medals in 2016 and 2020. So keep your eyes on Gymnastics because they are destine to make America Proud,,,
Kids these are only a few of the stories that we have to cover this Olympics so we will definitely be revisiting this subject tomorrow. We will be covering the Mens and Womans USA basketball team and their hunt for Gold also the overall medal count and the US’s success over the past couple of Olympics. Lots to cover so make sure you get plenty of sleep. Till then…Class is dismissed…
