WOW!!! That is all I can truly say is WOW… I go to sleep one
night and the Giants are one of the top lineups and teams in the NL and in MLB.
The next day I wake up and turn on ESPN Sportscenter and the top story is “Giants All Star OF
Melky Cabrera suspended 50 games for violating the substance abuse policy in
Major League Baseball.” This came as a
shock to my system. This is what we are going to talk about today kids the use
of PED’s and HGH in Baseball…
Now
should this come as a surprise….No it shouldn’t there are plenty of situations
in which the best hitter on a team was found to have done a PED. A-Rod in New
York, Barry in San Fran, Braun in Milwaukee. Now that last one I know was never
proved and he was found innocent and had his suspension reversed but I will
tell you now I honestly think he just beat the system and dodged a wrap. But back to Melky… the one thing that I do
like is that he came out and admitted right away anjd apologized. I call it the
Giambi way of dealing with these situations. It makes it a lot easier to swallow
that your hero has done this when they own up to the mistake. I hope the lesson
is learned by the young kids in the Little League World Series that people who
do wrong always get caught. But in Cabrera’s case I don’t think this was
something he was doing to make himself better he was doing it for himself to
help with his own aging body. So should he have to serve his suspension and the
answer is easy…Yes he should he did something that violated baseballs policy
and he should be punished for that. But much like how Giambi was forgotten and
forgiven for his indiscretion so should Melky. He is a grown man who mad a very
bad mistake. But just like most adults he owned it and is willing to accept his
punishment. So let him do his time forget about this and lets move on… as for
Giants fans don’t hold onto this like you did with Barry let it go and move on
welcome him back because you need his talent and your young players are going
to need his guidance. If anything they are going to be able to see 1st
hand what it is like to bounce back from a mistake and make things right….
I
go back to my original point kids. Did he do wrong?...yes. Should he be
punished?...yes! And the big question…Should he be forgiven?........Yes! If we
could forgive Giambi we should be able to forgive Melky for what has been a bad
choice made by a great player. Go home and think on that till then… Class is
dismissed…
