Basketballs Crazy off season…
If
you remember back to what seems like a not so long time ago there was talk that
we may never have basketball again. This
time last year the owners and players were lobbying for position in the court
of public opinion. But then we got down
to crunch time where the players and owners were going to lose a lot of money… Miraculously
they got their stuff together and we got a 66 game basketball season a season
that saw the Warriors go 23-43 and the Kings went 22-44. So neither team was in
the playoffs and though the Lakers 41-25 made it to the 2nd Round
losing to the eventual Finals runner up Thunder. Whereas the Clippers 40-26
lost to the San Antonio Spurs in the 2nd round as well. But this
offseason was a good one for the Lakers signing top free agent point guard
Steve Nash from the Suns. The Clippers had a decent offseason with no 1st
rnd draft pick they made the best of the draft in which they had 1 draft pick
(PF Furkan Aldemir from Turkey). The Kings made out pretty good in the draft
bringing back a must have in JJ Hickson and Jason Thompson. While at the same
time getting DeMarcus Cousins some help in the low post #5 draft pick Kansas PF
Thomas Robinson who should give the Kings another scoring threat in the low
post.
The
Warriors on the other hand started their rebuilding process last season trading
star guard Monte Ellis to the Bucks along with promising PF Epke Udoh to get
Top 3 (when healthy) C Andrew Bogut and G Stephen Jackson who they promptly
traded away to the Spurs for SF Richard Jefferson. Then they went into the
draft with 4 picks and used them all 3 on players who should make an impact SF
Harrison Barnes, C Festus Ezeil, PF
Draymond Green, and C Ognjen Kuzmic from Bosnia who probably wont see any play time
this season. They improved in every area that they needed to. They filled out the roster by resigning
Brandon Rush and adding depth to the front court by signing PF Carl Landry,
they lost promising SF Dorel Wright but added to the roster with veteran G
Jarret Jack to compensate for the loss of G Nate Robinson. So with all that
craziness in this offseason the Pacific Division looks to be a difficult one to
make it through in the 2012-13 season so keep an eye on this division cause it
may send up to 4 teams to the playoffs this season. Im just sayin…
That’s
it for now my students till next time…Class is dismissed…
