2012-13 Season Outlook for the San Diego Chargers (Part 2: Defense)…

Hey students good morning and welcome back to Double K’s classroom. Today we are going to go back to our preview of the Chargers for the upcoming football season. Yesterday we explored the offensive side of the ball. Today we are going to cover the side of the ball that really matters, the side that they say “wins championships” that’s right im talking about the Defense. The Chargers Defense was definitely sub-par last year after the loss of LB Shaun Marrimen and this year there hasn’t been much improvement…

Defensive Line: (Projected 2012-13 Starters: LDE C.Liuget, NT A.Garay, RDE V.Martin): With a defensive line that suffered last year averaging giving up over 100 yards a game they are looking to get better. With no major names arriving in San Diego this offseason thru free agency or the draft the Chargers will be working with the same group from last year only this time a year better…

Linebackers: (Projected 2012-13 Starters: LOLB S.Phillips, LILB T.Spikes, RILB D.Butler, ROLB J.Johnson): This linebacking core was pretty strong last year they didn’t produce any huge numbers. But they did stay stout and produce a big play or two during the regular season. So keep you eyes on this group cause with stud veterans like Spikes and Phillips leading they way they are going to be just fine…

Cornerbacks/ Safties: (Projected 2012-13 Starters: LCB Q.Jammer, SS A.Bigby, FS E.Weddle, RCB A.Cason): This was the one bright spot on the Chargers defense E.Weddle has become one of the top safties in the NFL and with new addition Bigsby joining Jammer and Cason this backfield should be wreaking havoc in the AFC this season…

Well once again with all this talent the Chargers should be competing again for a AFC West title or even a #2 seed in the AFC but only time will tell as always. I know I will keep an eye on them because they have a tendency to emerge strong whenyu think they are weakest. So till then my stundents…Class is Dismissed…
